Assignment 1

Art movement: Art Nouveau
Centered in Western Europe, this decorative arts movement began as an opposition to the historical emphasis in mid-19th century art. The movement was established as the first new decorative style of the 20th century at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris. Meaning New Art, Art Nouveau’s decorative style and dedication to natural forms was internationally popular from 1880 to 1910. The movement had basis in Romanticism, Symbolism, and the British Arts and Crafts movement, notably the work of William Morriss. Characterized by detailed patterns and curving lines and the use of leaves, flowers, and vines. The ornamental and asymmetrical style was best displayed in the decorative arts such as furniture, jewelry, and book design and illustration. Artists of the style emphasized symbolic and erotic themes.

The aim of Art Nouveau was to eliminate the distinction between the major and minor arts. They wished to unify all arts in order to settle on the theme of man’s place in life and the world. Its an attempt to create an international decorative style that was appropriate for the modern age, the movement straddled the fence between the past and future. Artists fused together elements of the new urban life with traditional spirituality, myth, and fantasy.. Despite this difference, Art Nouveau artists believed that all that art should work in harmony. The style did not survive World War I, and was rarely used after WWI when it was replaced by Art Deco.

Artist: Alphonse Mucha

Alphonse Maria Mucha was a Czech Art Nouveau. He was born on July 24, 1860 or Secession painter and decorative artist. Mucha produced a flurry of paintings, posters, advertisements, and book illustrations, as well as designs for jewelery, carpets, wallpaper, and theatre sets in what came to be known as the Art Nouveau style. His works frequently featured beautiful healthy young women in flowing vaguely Neoclassical looking robes, often surrounded by lush flowers. His Art Nouveau style was often imitated.

Myself , My Interest and My Aspirations

To describe me, I’m Shaleny Jayakumaran currently pursuing my bachelor in communication, majoring in Marketing Communication. I’m in a family of six and I have got two elder sisters and one younger sister. There’s  nothing much to talk about me where I have a life with beautiful moments with family and friend. I would prefer to narrow down my list simply because; I am not the easy going type of a person. I believe in the duration of people knowing me and how much I know them. I would not talk to someone until I really feel comfortable being with them. I’m a person who analyze in many different possibilities I can’t before I do something. And for this reason, I would always get screwing up for being too fussy over something.  I am a very passive person, that whatever my feelings, I always keep myself reminded so that the same thing will not happen again. Not to forget, i love dogs. i've got  two Spitz and one toy poodle.  I feel that they are one kinda of a creature that sometimes can be better than a human being.
All souls have something interesting to say about what thy, their interest and the aspirations they have.  To be someone, I believe that one should have a stepping stone. My name is Shaleny and I’m currently pursuing my bachelor in marketing communication.  To be here at this point doing my degree, I’ve actually had a tough time deciding on what course would best suit me. I have to say that, to jut decide on what I wanted to pursue, I actually took about a year. It was that difficult for me to actually decide what is wanted to do. The reason why I took such a long period is because I was just too confuse on o many majors as I have chosen different subjects in my foundation.  The reason of me majoring in marketing communication instead of any other thing is only because I always have a hobby and ambition to own my own business.   I love listening to music, perhaps I love singing. Singing is my passion though I’ve not taken any courses on that. Besides that, i also have a passion for yoga where I feel that it is one of my favorite workouts. It does not only give me energy, but it also calms down my emotions and my mood.
Finally, I believe that when I can afford to take care of myself, and I have extra income coming into my pocket, I would indulge myself into having a mall NGO that I can afford to have. I hope to also join in Ngo’s that are focusing more on children that are in need.
